This Privacy Policy explains what information Hackerbot (the “Bot”, “we”, “us”) collects when it is added to a Discord server, how that information is used, and the choices you have. By allowing the Bot to be added to a server, or by using its commands, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy.
The Bot is a Discord moderation and utility bot. It does not have a website account system, does not collect payment information, and does not use cookies or tracking scripts. All information it handles is connected to Discord and is only accessible through Discord’s API.
1. Information We Collect
The Bot only receives information that Discord makes available to it through the Discord API while it is a member of a server. This may include:
Discord account information — user IDs, usernames, nicknames, avatar images, account creation dates, and guild membership details (such as join dates and roles).
Messages — messages sent in channels the Bot can read. Messages are processed to power the word/name filters, anti-spam system, channel linking, quoting, and related features. Message content is not stored permanently; it is evaluated in memory and only the results of moderation actions are recorded (see below).
Moderation records — when a moderation action occurs (warnings, mutes, temporary bans, filter offenses), the Bot stores the affected user’s Discord ID, the action taken, any reason provided by a moderator, and a timestamp. These records are kept per server so that ongoing or expiring actions (such as timed mutes and temp bans) can be lifted automatically.
Reminders — if you use the /remind command, the Bot stores your Discord ID, the reminder text you provided, and the time it should be delivered. The reminder is deleted once it has been delivered or if you remove it.
Giveaway data — while a giveaway is running, the Bot tracks participating user IDs and records the winner(s) when it ends. Giveaway data is removed once the giveaway is completed.
Group and role activity — when you join or leave a self-assignable group or reaction role, the Bot records your Discord ID so the correct role can be added or removed, including timed roles that are removed automatically.
Server configuration — settings configured by server administrators (command prefixes, filter patterns, log channels, welcome messages, role IDs, channel links, and similar). These are configuration data for the server, not personal data about members.
2. How We Use Information
Information is used solely to operate the Bot’s features:
Enforcing server rules through moderation commands and automated filters;
Applying and automatically lifting timed mutes and temporary bans;
Delivering reminders, welcome messages, and group/role changes;
Running giveaways and selecting winners;
Linking channels, as configured by server administrators; and
Maintaining per-server configuration so the Bot behaves as configured.
3. Storage and Retention
Per-server data is stored in a database on the Bot’s own server infrastructure, keyed by Discord server and user IDs. Retention is tied to the feature the data supports:
Mute and temporary ban records are removed when the action expires or is undone;
Offense and warning records are removed when they expire under the server’s configured reset policy or are manually cleared by server administrators;
Reminders are removed once delivered or cancelled;
Giveaway data is removed when the giveaway ends;
Server configuration is retained while the Bot is in the server and removed when it is removed from the server or when a server administrator requests it.
4. Who Can Access Information
Server administrators and moderators in each server can see moderation activity performed by the Bot (for example, log channel entries and command outputs such as user lookups). This is inherent to the Bot functioning as a moderation tool for that server. The Bot’s operator does not browse member messages or personal data for any other purpose.
5. How Information Is Shared
We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information. Information is only shared in the following limited ways:
Discord — the Bot interacts with the Discord API to read and act on server data, and all Discord account information originates from Discord;
Aggregate statistics — non-identifying, aggregated counts (such as total servers the Bot is in) may be displayed on public bot listing sites (e.g., Discord Bots, TopGG). No usernames, user IDs, or message content are shared.
6. What We Do Not Do
We do not use cookies, analytics scripts, or advertising trackers.
We do not collect payment or financial information.
We do not use your data for advertising or profiling.
We do not share personal data with third parties except as described above.
7. Security
Per-server data is stored on private server infrastructure and is not publicly accessible. No amount of security is perfect; we take reasonable measures to protect the data we store, but we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Children’s Privacy
The Bot is not directed at children under 13. Discord itself requires users to be at least 13 years old, and the Bot does not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
9. Your Choices
You can limit what the Bot sees and stores by:
Removing the Bot from a server (its configuration data for that server will no longer be used);
Cancelling reminders with /remind remove;
Contacting us to request deletion of your moderation records or other stored data.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page reflects the most recent changes. Continued use of the Bot after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
